Warmest congratulations to SDAF member, The Bull Hotel at Wrotham on winning an AA Notable Wine List Award 2018 - 19. This is one of only 5 awarded wine lists in Kent. The hotel also won Series 13 of the Channel 4 programme FOUR IN A BED. What stars!
We have lots of tourists popping in to refuel after a day out exploring our stunning countryside or soaking up the local history.
Some of them have been signposted to us by one of the many B&Bs in the area. So, we thought it was high time we said thank you and invite the B&B owners in for dinner.
They were all members of the Sevenoaks District Accommodation Forum and thanks to its chairman Penny Cracknell, we had a lively group of owners join us for a fun evening, hosted by our very own proprietor, Jo Naismith.
“Nobody has ever invited us before as a collective so this was a first,” Penny told us. “It was a really super evening. The hospitality was brilliant, the staff were enormously enthusiastic and we enjoyed lovely food.”
New and long-standing members of the SDAF met for the first time and within minutes they were swopping ideas and sharing anecdotes. Members are all the proud owners of one, two or three bedroom B&Bs or self-catering accommodation within the Sevenoaks area - from contemporary chic to historic, four-poster 16th century homes.
Among the party were Drew and Debra Farish, owners of The Barn at Hildenborough, who told us that they had their very first date here at The Castle Inn.
The evening was a two-venue affair – dinner was at our pub then the party moved to our sister pub, The Wheatsheaf, for dessert and coffee.
“It was a lovely idea to split the dinner, as we didn’t realise how close the two pubs were,” added Penny. “As B&B owners, we often recommend The Castle and The Wheatsheaf to our guests as lovely places to go for food, but now we can say that with complete confidence.”
SDAF would like to thank both The Castle Inn and The Wheatsheaf at Bough Beech for their hospitality. We are always keen to promote Kent produce and Kent businesses by encouraging our guests to visit and enjoy the many delights on offer throughout the Sevenoaks district. There is so much to enjoy, that one visit simply isn't enough to sample everything on offer!
The latest addition to the Ightham tea shop scene is certainly a unique one! The Golding Hop Tea House, Sheet Hill, Plaxtol has just opened its doors. Serving Aussie-created T2 teas, home-made cakes and other savoury delights, the Tea House's vintage decor will send you back in time to a 1930s tea room. But the extensive offering of teas and infusions is bang up to date with its emphasis on T2's innovative tea range, designed to re-invent and re-imagine the humble tea leaf.
So visit now and be inspired!
Eyewitness account from a happy visitor to Westerham Brewery...........Saturday, early June, late afternoon sunshine and the diary empty of other commitments.......what better place than to head over to Westerham Brewery by Westerham Valley Farm? Plenty of car parking space, outside tables (re-think your plans if it’s raining!), lots of people of all ages milling around, eating excellent home made burgers from the food truck and washing it down with local beers, delicious wines that haven’t travelled for miles (although there is an excellent choice of wines from all over the world too) or if you’re into the serious stuff, locally produced gins. We went hoping for a good early evening out but came away with a feeling that far exceeded our expectations.
This place will become a destination very soon I’m sure. Discover it now before everybody else does!
